| . . . for a guy who in 1967 was finding
innovative ways to use scrap paper — all the way to a First
Place AICC win in 2001 for Innovative Use of Corrugated. But then
Louie Englander has always been one to climb a mountain nobody else
could see!
That’s
what he did in 1967. He saw an untapped mountain of need for shipping
boxes in Central Texas. It wasn’t long before his corrugated
sheet plant was thriving. Louie built that business by knowing how
to take care of people the way they wanted to be served, inventing
Just In Time before it had a name.
In 1972,
Louie relocated the company in Waco’s new industrial park.
After four additions, Englander now encompasses 100,000 square feet,
with an additional 32,000 at the company’s San Antonio division,
opened in 2004.

 Along
the way, the family business found its next “itch” in
Louie’ son, Marty, who worked his way up from a 1989 start
in customer service, through sales, into the position of C.E.O.
Marty proved completely in sync with his Dad’s way of putting
customer satisfaction first. Then, he set out to develop a design
department and expand the business through graphics packaging and
displays. |

Customer
demand for Englander’s packaging work grew rapidly, leading
the company in 1994 to purchase a 4-color flexo printer, rotary
die cutter, a silkscreen press in 2003 to accommodate corrugated
plastic printing, and in 2004, Englander made the next leap into
high impact, digital printing. With the new Scitex Vision CORjet
and Kongsberg digital die cutter from Esko-Graphics, Englander can
now meet JIT needs for short-run promo packaging, POP, product launches,
customized presentations, trade show displays and whatever a client
can dream.

Louie Englander
is still on the job as Chairman of Englander Container & Display,
treating every customer like a king, no matter the size of their
order. Englander’s “In 24” program provides equal
service to the customer who needs one sample display as for the
client who orders thousands of boxes.
Professionally,
Marty is an active member of the Association of Independent Corrugated
Converters and has served on its Region 4 Board of Directors. In
the same vein of service, the Englander family gives serious attention
to civic responsibility. Louie and Marty have served in every kind
of capacity with the Chamber of Commerce, in non-profit charities,
and through the outreach of civic organizations.
